My term as President ends on May 31st. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Executive Board and members of our association for a wonderful year filled with excellent continuing education programs, community outreach, and positive interactions between our members. A recap of the year is shown below. The hours and dedication that were required to execute these worthwhile programs were contributed by our all volunteer Executive Board and NDVDA members who pitched in to help as well. Thank you for a wonderful experience. We finished with a record high of 229 members, and I hope that number will only increase.
NDVDA offers nutrition and health education programs which include at least 6 CEUs each year to nutrition professionals and when appropriate, invite individuals who represent other disciplines to participate. This year, we offered 9 CEUs. On November 14, 2012, Margaret Furtado, from the University of Maryland, presented on Bariatric Nutrition. On February 16, 2013, fifty participants enjoyed a 6 CEU Molly Kellogg, RD, LCSW workshop on counseling for health behavior change. On March 20, we celebrated RD Day (one week late) at Wegmans in Fairfax by providing networking as well as a free 1CEU program presented by Krystal Register, RD, Wegman's Dietitian.
My theme as President was community outreach. Two projects: establishing a school garden and participating in a community walk were completed or are in the process of being completed. Adair Lindsay, MS, RD met with the principal of Franconia Elementary School to begin planning the school garden. NDVDA has budgeted $1000 for this project. On May 5th, ten NDVDA members and some family members met for a community walk organized by Kelly McGrath,RD our CoChair on Community. We supported the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation by walking with several 100 others in Bon Air Park in Arlington.
I am pleased to announce that two NDVDA members were honored at VDA's Awards Ceremony on Monday, April 8 in Richmond. Lise Gloede, RD, CDE has been selected as this year's Distinguished Dietitian from Virginia and Adair Lindsey, MS, RD has been recognized as Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year! Congratulations ladies!!!

We will all be in good hands when Anu Kaur, MS, RD, RYT assumes the presidency on June 1, 2013! Go Anu!!!
